Blushing cheeks have always been considered beautiful. That is why cheek color was invented. Back in the victorian days, fair maidens would pinch their cheeks for that pretty, rosy cheek look to attract suiters. Now, there are less painful ways to do that. Just brush on cheek makeup in powder form or a cream blusher, for the blushing maiden look. Or apply brown or bronze cheek color for that healthy tan look. Use a glittery or sparkly cheek color for that dash of glamour.

Blusher need not be applied only to the cheeks. A huge powder brush can be used to lightly pick up a little blusher powder, dust off the excess, and lightly brush over the forehead, tip of the nose, tops of cheeks and chin for an over all radiant look. Estee lauder blush is excellent as is NARS blush.

Some people might go for a cheek implant to make their cheekbones look higher. Cheek augmentation surgery can make a face look sharper, but you can achieve the look of higher cheekbones through the clever application of blush. Joey cheek blushers are pretty good for such contouring work.

How to apply blush

If you want to contour your face like a pro, this is how you might want to apply your blusher.
  1. Use a blush brush. You get better results with the right makeup tools. For contouring your face, a brush is a must.
  2. Pick a light blush in a shimmery shade lighter than your skin to serve as a highlighter
  3. Pick a deeper blush that is matte and darker than your skin tone for the shadow. It could be a rosy shade, a pinky brown or a reddish brown, or chocolate, depending on your skin color.
  4. If your face is round, apply the darker blush in a triangular shape beneath your cheekbones. Then dust lightly, the shimmery blush on top of the cheekbones to sharpen your features
  5. If your face is narrow, apply the blush in a horizontal rectangle below your cheekbones to widen your face. Then put the shimmery blush on the highest part of your cheekbones where they might catch the light.
  6. Dust the lighter blush where your face would catch the light. The tip and bridge of your nose to sharpen your nose, the tip of your chin.

Cheek stain

The rules are different if you use a gel blush. Tarte cheek stain is one of the most popular cheek stains you might use. The same steps apply for a cream blush.

  1. Wash hands with soap and water and dry thoroughly
  2. Take a small amount of cheek gel on your finger tip.
  3. Apply the gel cheek stain or cream blush on your cheeks, where you might flush when you exercise, or blush when embarassed, for a rosy, natural blush.
  4. Rub in the blush with fingertips to blend thoroughly.
